Last week, Mrs. Doubtfire – Das Musical celebrated its German-language premiere at the Capitol Theater Düsseldorf. Based on the 1993 film, the stage musical features a book by Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell, with music and lyrics by Wayne and Karey Kirkpatrick. The German version was developed by Ruth Deny, Johannes Deny and Kevin Schroeder — a brand-new adaptation created especially for the German stage.

The production, directed by Jerry Zaks and produced by ATG Productions, marks the first full-length version of the show outside the English-speaking world. And it arrives with heart, humour and a strong pop-rock pulse.

“A new version that truly exists for the first time here,” said producer Michael Driemler-Falk — and critics agree. The German translation has been widely praised for its fluidity, humour, and precision, with one reviewer even claiming the Düsseldorf production feels “stronger than the West End original.”
