JUDITH AND THE WONDER OF CREATION – A New Choral Musical to Premiere in 2026

28 September 25

In February 2026, a new kind of musical will take the stage — one that blends intimate storytelling with collective power: Judith and the Wonder of Creation (Judith und das Wunder der Schöpfung) is a large-scale choral musical exploring some of the biggest questions of our time.

At the heart of the piece are Judith and Ammo — two young people facing impossible choices in a world that feels increasingly fractured and fragile. Their story unfolds within a family that reflects the fault lines of society: between progress and nostalgia, hope and fear, personal freedom and shared responsibility. Surrounding them is a chorus of thousands, echoing their inner struggles and giving voice to a generation seeking clarity, connection, and courage.

Set against the backdrop of the biblical creation story, Judith becomes a reminder that life — even when chaotic or uncertain — remains a unique and precious gift.

The creative team behind the piece brings together five voices from across pop and theatre:

Kevin Schroeder (book and lyrics), Michael Herberger (music production), and the songwriting trio Laura Diederich, Ilja Krut, and Johannes Pinter. The score blends pop, gospel, rap, and electronic elements, with massive choral arrangements that turn each show into a powerful communal experience.

At the first public rehearsal in Bochum in September 2025, over 3,000 singers from across North Rhine-Westphalia gathered in the RuhrCongress to raise their voices for the first time — creating an energy that reviewers called “goosebump-inducing” and “profoundly emotional.”

The premiere takes place on 21 February 2026 in Dortmund’s Westfalenhalle — with two performances in one day due to overwhelming demand. A nationwide tour is already planned for 2027 and 2028, bringing the production to cities across Germany. In each location, local choirs will join the professional cast on stage, turning every show into a unique community event.

The project is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia, with additional partners including Brot für die Welt, the EKD, the Archdiocese of Paderborn, and the foundation Gesunde Erde – gesunde Menschen.
