Hamilton
Created by Lin‑Manuel Miranda
Based on the book by Ron Chernow
German version by Kevin Schroeder & Sera Finale
History has its eyes on him.
With an explosive score and a revolutionary approach to storytelling, Hamilton reimagines the life of Alexander Hamilton, the orphaned immigrant who became America’s first Treasury Secretary — and one of its most polarising Founding Fathers.
Told through hip-hop, R&B, pop, and traditional musical theatre, the show traces Hamilton’s rise through war, politics, and personal scandal. At its heart: a story about legacy, identity, and the question of who gets to be remembered.
The German production premiered at the Operettenhaus Hamburg, produced by Stage Entertainment — developed in close collaboration with the original creative team. To date, it is the only non-English production approved by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The German adaptation was honored with the Craig-Simmons-Award in 2023.

So much credit for the success of the German translation of Hamilton belongs to Kevin Schroeder. Through tireless work, he captured the propulsive energy of the original lyrics and made them soar in a new language. I appreciate the incredible care and experience he and his collaborator brought to the process. The results were more than just satisfying – they were thrilling.
— Lin-Manuel Miranda, Creator of Hamilton.

Perhaps most fundamentally, this Hamilton is a masterpiece of translation. Kevin Schroeder and Sera Finale approached their herculean assignment with unstinting resourcefulness and shrewd musical instinct, resulting in some of the most vivid, fresh-faced and dynamic German heard in the theatre in a long time. (…) The punning, exuberant text results in a genuinely German version — a Hamilton eminently, entirely at home in the language. Nearly every word in translation rings true.

Mann, ich hab’ nur diesen einen Schuss
Bin wie mein Land voll am Starten,
Bin jung, scharf und geladen,
